Mountains with Snow – Harris.

Saturday.

I can’t get enough of these mountains topped with snow surrounded by water, all in the vicinity of Luskentyre on the Isle of Harris. Harris is the Isle of mountains and rocks and lochs, a harsh environment to live in but with a wild beauty that has captivated me.

A shaft of sunlight glowing on Taransay with the snow topped mountain behind.
A wider view including more mountains with snow.
And turning sideways even more mountains topped with snow.

Rain – Luskentyre Beach.

Sunday.

After walking along the tops of the dunes in sunshine my trip back along the waterline was with a typical Scottish mix of scattered showers and intermittent sun. A long lovely walk along the edge of the sand with hardly another soul in sight.

Rain squall on the hills.
Across the waves to Taransay, rain squalls and a rainbow.

Luskentyre Beach.

Sunday.

Finally to Luskentyre Beach! I climbed up beside the cemetery to the top of the dunes from the car park to get an overview of the beach and bay. It was quite a grey day so the sea wasn’t the clear turquoise you see in the pictures on Instagram but still it was a very impressive sight.

Up on top of the sand dunes behind Luskentyre Beach and the view over the little creek.
Looking to Taransay from the top of the dunes, can’t be helped I’m in it too!

On The Way to Luskintyre.

Thursday.

Since I first glimpsed Luskintyre back in 2011 as we drove past on our way to elsewhere, I swore to myself I’d come back some day and find this amazing stretch of sand again. Back then I didn’t have it’s name but over the year it has become a bucket list for many people and is quite ‘the’ tourist attraction with its white sand beaches and tidal differences and clear turquoise water with at times, big rolling surf. Even though it has become so well known since I first saw it, I felt I had to experience it myself to satisfy that longing I had back in 2011.

A sunny morning, rocks and blue water of the loch.
Luskintyre and Taransay from the hill above.
